How much is the price of a $1 gold-coin dated 1898?
I am not sure if it is a gold-coin edition, but I am sure it is gold plated. The coin is dated 1898. Thanks.
The US government stopped minting gold dollars in 1889, and they were tiny; noticeably smaller than a dime. If your coin is about an inch and a half across, and looks like this http://www.coinlink.com/CoinGuide/images/ust_108.jpg what you've got is a Morgan Dollar that someone has gold plated; an act that I personally feel should be punishable by horse whipping.
With the gold plating on it, it's going to be worth at most the silver value of about $21, unless you can find someone who really wants/needs a gold plated example.
Even with the current run up in the price of gold, the gold plating is so thin that it's not worth the time and effort to remove it.

i believe it is because of the size. gold biscuit is larger than Gold Coins right? you may ask what's wrong in that. well, the reason biscuit's rate is higher because they want to encourage you to invest in biscuit. if the rate is the same for both then investors will just buy the smaller coins. with the same capital they can get more coins and if it results in gains, they will receive the same profit as biscuits. but if it produces losses, they will not suffer as much as biscuits. because coin's price is lower, they can sell it easier than biscuit.
